Nokia Quadruples Ovi Mail Users In About Three Months

Nokia (NYSE: NOK) released some statistics today, suggesting that its email service called Ovi Mail is quickly becoming a must-have form of communication in the developing world. More than one million accounts have been activated in just six months, and the number of users has quadrupled since April when Nokia said it had only 250,000.

Perhaps, one of Nokia’s biggest opportunities lies in the developing world, where it continues to dominate in terms of marketshare, and the behaviors of users are not already set, according to brands, like Google (NSDQ: GOOG), Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) and Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) on the PC. What’s nice about Ovi Mail is that people can create and manage their first email address from the phone, without any PC needed.

The top five countries for Ovi Mail are India, Indonesia, Mexico, Russia and South Africa. Ovi Mail is free and available in more than 180 countries and supports 20 languages.
