Nokia (NYSE: NOK) has founded a new advisory group within its recently created Nokia Entertainment and Communities Group to help ensure that revenues are shared fairly with artists as new technology for accessing music develops, reports Billboard. The handset giant has tapped Dave Stewart—better known as one half of the former pop duo Eurythmics—to help head and develop the Nokia Artists’ Advisory Council, as it’s called.

Nokia has been trying to transform itself into a mobile web entertainment company, bypassing operators and going directly to entertainment sources in the process. The advisory council is yet another step in this direction. Nokia’s chief entertainment officer Tero Ojanpera told Billboard that the idea behind the council was to try to connect the consumer to the artists and to ensure that they understood how artists, “the source of innovation,” wanted to be represented through their offerings. Ojanpera: “It’s really about getting to the source of creative talent, and helping them connect through technology.”

In December, Nokia announced its intention to roll out its Comes With Music offer, in which one year’s worth of free songs—so far from Universal Music—would be bundled into the purchase of a compatible handset. It also launched a music store in the UK in November.
