Nokia Buys File Sharing Service Avvenu
Nokia (NYSE: NOK) is buying Palo Alto, Ca-based Avvenu, the three-year old technology provider of secure file-access-and-share services. The deal hasn’t been completed, and financial terms were not disclosed. Avvenu’s technology platform Access ‘N Share works across PC’s, mobiles, and set-top boxes and allows people to search, access and share PC files through their mobile even when their host computer is turned off, using a digital locker. Nokia plans to integrate Avvenu into its new Services & Software unit early next year. It will offer the service to operators, but its main target is mobile workers—it’s spoken of as part of Nokia’s business mobility strategy. Nokia says it hopes Avvenu will give them mobile capabilities beyond email. (via release).
