Canadian telco Bell Mobility has signed a deal with the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) and the National Hockey League (NHL) to be the exclusive mobile provider of NHL hockey content in Canada—the service is planned to expand to the US once “the league’s deal with Verizon (NYSE: VZ) comes due at the end of the year”. The Canadian Press reports NHL chief operating officer John Collins saying that: “We know they’re online, we know they’re using mobile…This is another way to reach them.” Fine sentiments, but if they really wanted to reach all their customer base on the different media they used the league wouldn’t have signed an exclusive deal with one telco.

The service costs CA$8 (US$6.70) plus data charges, and lets subscribers access live NHL games on NHL Audio, in-game and post-game video highlights, live NHL games through NHL Centre Ice Mobile, and receive text alerts. There’s also official NHL wallpapers and ringtones, and special Mobile Video Exclusives that include Frozen Moments, Fantasy Fan Blast, Fantasy Quick Tip and Prime Match-Up and other features including Game of the Week and more.
