imageIn a case of I-told-you-so, NBC Universal (NYSE: GE) is reaffirming with statistics the goal it set out to accomplish on mobile during the Beijing Olympics: attract scores of new mobile users and drive usage to new heights. The network’s Olympics WAP site generated 36 million page views and 6.5 million unique visitors, according to Omniture data released today. More than 826,000 Olympics-related videos were streamed on mobile during the games, according to data compiled from carriers and the network’s WAP site. It probably doesn’t include MediaFLO, which programmed an exclusive Olympics channel on AT&T (NYSE: T) throughout the games for the network. Finally, at least 300,000 wireless customers signed up for text-message alerts throughout the game, according to SinglePoint, which managed the SMS campaign.

Online, NBC faced a tight race with Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) over the share of Olympics content that each provided. Yahoo came out early during the games, boasting that its portal tracked 1.3 million more unique visits during the first three days of the games. NBC and Yahoo eventually sent out contradictory data pulled from various tracking firms to bolster their position. More than halfway through the games, Yahoo claimed almost 27 percent more unique users than NBC.
