San Jose, CA-based Melodis, which lets people discover music, by singing, humming, or playing the song into their mobile phone, has raised $7 million in a second round of funding. TransLink Capital led this latest round with JAIC America and existing investor Global Catalyst Partners participating. Also today, Melodis said their musical search app for the iPhone and iPod Touch called midomi became available for free in the iTunes App store. The funding will go towards international expansion, including Asia, where the company’s investors particularly have strong ties to mobile networks and devices. Melodis faces competition from Shazam, as GigaOm reports.
