Motorola Splits Home And Networks Business Into Three: Report

Is Motorola (NYSE: MOT) gearing up for a sale? In March the company said it would hive off its troubled handset unit from the rest of its businesses. Now, the WSJ is reporting that it is splitting its home and networks mobility business into three separate units, paving the way for their possible sale, which would leave the company with only its handset business to manage. The division, which posted revenues of $2.4 billion in the first quarter, sells cable set-top boxes, modems, cable infrastructure and network gear for telecoms carriers and cable companies. In a memo to its employees, Moto said that the reorganization was not a “reaction” to its separation plans, or a “cost-cutting measure.” More details are expected to emerge at the company’s quarterly earnings report on Thursday.
