More Departures From Jamba: Markus Berger-de Leon Resigns As Well
A busy departure week at Fox Mobile/Jamba (part of News Corp.) : first Lucy Hood, the CEO, and now comes the news that Chief Sales Officer and director, Markus Berger-de Leon is also leaving. There is a transition period, but Lee Fenton, COO of Jamba, will also take over Berger-de Leon’s tasks…he is already the interim head taking over Hood’s responsibilities.

I sincerely hope that Rafat has lost his calender and thinks it is April 1st, because of this is not a joke, I honestly do not know what is.

Kevin, it particularly makes sense if he was told he was not in the running for CEO.

Agreed Staci, but considering that he actually brought the company where it is today, I am baffled they didn’t offer it to him.
In addition the management team around him are particularly renowned for their loyalty to him, by all accounts he was a good boss. So I doubt this is the last of the departures.

NOW they are in trouble. I even think that Lucy’s departure may have been a good thing.
This one is clearly not.
... and I don’t think they’ll find a suitable successor easily.

As we all know in this industry, figureheads like Lucy fall because of too many keynotes and not enough c-notes (to the bottom line). Markus was the guy getting stuff done and now he’s jumping (or getting pushed). Sounds like the wheels are coming off this trainwreck (to mix metaphors). Pete Chernin at News Corp made the call on acquiring Jamba so his digital track record (see Hulu in the Dead Pool by end of ‘07) is 100%.

Let’s get real, Jamba is mostly a German company, which means it is runned primarily by Germans. Yes, Germans who have repuatation in business of being inexperienced, naive, incompetent and ineffective. Its a cultural thing. Jamba almost went under until American firm VeriSign and saved their little kraut asses. Again, another American firm News Corp came to the rescue, keeping them alive a bit longer. However, globally, this firm is on its last throws…they have almost non-existent business out in the world, except in some areas of europe, where consumer standards and desires are considerably less than say first world countries. Leave it to Germans to think small, ruin it with incompetence and then blame everyone else. No wonder Germany has had a 1.5% average annual economic growth rate for the past 15 years…which is really poor. What Germans call middle class, Americans, British, Australians, Japanese and Canadians call poverty.
