Mobile Video Company Vuclip Raises $6 Million In Second Round

Vuclip, which enables a video to play on any phone with a mobile browser and native media player, said it has raised a second round of funding worth $6 million. The round was led by Jafco Ventures and existing investor New Enterprise Associates also participated.

The Milpitas, Calif.-based company said its service delivers more than one million videos a day to users on more than 3,000 handsets in 150 countries using technology that allows the clip to be converted on a real-time basis. Content owners use the technology to transcode the video and insert ads. Users can also search for videos using Vuclip, which will finds videos they are looking for and then transcodes it on the fly and then delivers it to the phone in real-time. Users don’t have to download an app for it to work, and the service is free. The top six categories gives an idea how the service is being used. They include: hot babes, celebrity gossip, sports and humor.
