Mobile Tuesday To Lure Shoppers With Cellphone Coupons

First there was Black Friday, the start of the holiday shopping season, then there was Cyber Monday, where shoppers tired of walking the malls could surf for deals. Now mobile marketing firm Mobigosee is launching “Mobile Tuesday” tomorrow, hoping to entice consumers back to stores with circulars and coupons sent to their cellphones on a day that doesn’t traditionally see many shoppers.  AdAge.com reports that the launch, which is being backed by a ten-city ad campaign, includes only three marketers: McDonald’s, Finish Line, and RedTag. According to CEO and founder Tanya Penman, the company had signed on a number of “major marketing partners,” but that they had dropped out come early September after their ad budgets had been slashed. Still, Penman tells AdAge that the demand for mobile coupons is there. Not only are consumers buying better handsets such as the iPhone, Storm and G1, but consumers are actively looking for better deals this holiday season. Penman reports that 18,000 people have signed up for Mobile Tuesday updates, mostly through web sites that leak Black Friday deals. The original goal had been 5,000. Mobigosee is paid only when a shopper redeems a coupon.
