Mobile Tech Provider Sencha Raises $14 Million
Sencha, an application development platforms provider, has raised $14 million in a first round of funding led by Sequoia Capital and joined by Radar Partners, the company said Thursday.
The three-year old Palo Alto, California-based company started out as a business application platform provider for the internet, but has since moved into mobile to tackle the challenge of creating web applications on touch based devices. It joined forces with jQTouch and Raphael, two projects with similar goals, and released Sencha Touch, a platform that allows developers to create web apps that look and feel “native” on Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) iOS and Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Android touchscreen devices.
As part of that investment, Stratton Sclavos, the former VeriSign (NSDQ: VRSN) CEO, and partner at Radar, joins Sencha’s board.
