MocoSpace, a mobile social networking startup (nothing to do with us, despite the name), has received $3 million in its first round of funding…the round was led by General Catalyst, Bob Pittman’s Pilot Group and Michael Deering. The Boston-based company has been around for some time, and says it is nearing 1 million members. It has grown organically and has been doing ad campaigns across mobile ad networks such as Third Screen Media and AdMob, it says. Some more info about the company here: “It is an icon-driven, off-deck gateway into profiles, blogs, user-uploaded videos and chats. Siegel says that the audience skews ethnically to African-American and Hispanic members, who comprise more than half the population.”
