Mobile Games Firm Kiloo Raises Second Round To Launch Media Unit
Danish mobile games publisher Kiloo has raised a “significant” undisclosed amount in its second round of funding from Danish VC Firmainvest, the company said today. The eight-year-old company is using the money to launch Kiloo Media, which it calls a mobile media company. CEO Jacob Møller says the new unit will combine all of the technologies that the company has created to offer new applications, especially targeted at broadcasters and media companies, and to brand owners. It will concentrate specifically on creating mobiles apps that allow voting, video streaming, and creating tailored app stores.
Kiloo Media has already been working for its first customer, Denmark’s largest broadcaster TV 2, which will launch the mobile application early next year. Møller said that the application would allow viewers to vote on TV shows, read news from the broadcaster, watch TV, and easily access an app store filled with TV 2’s downloadable content. The broadcaster will also be able to launch the app remotely, communicating with viewers who have downloaded the app onto their phones. It might, for example, let viewers know that voting for a TV show is now open, or alert them to breaking news. Møller said it would be ideal to have the app pre-installed on handsets. But he said that they will push the application when viewers text in to vote on a show by sending back a return message inviting them to download it.
