Mobile Content Networks Buys “Semantic Media” Specialist Caboodle
Mobile search company Mobile Content Networks has announced that it is buying up the assets of Caboodle Networks, which has developed an open-source “semantic” recommendation platform for mobile users. MCN plans to integrate Caboodle’s open-source-based technology into its search service. Semantic search, which takes into account such factors as a user’s location, past searches and pre-determined recommendations, has been thought by some to be the next stage in search technology. Indeed in the mobile space a reduction in the number of “taps” that are needed for users to arrive a what they are looking for is definitely the holy grail for companies like Google, Yahoo and AOL. But semantic startups perhaps are having a slow start: Caboodle has been around since 2003 but has only managed to build up it users into the “hundreds.” The terms of the deal were not disclosed. release
