Knight Foundation awards digital community news projects: The Knight Foundation is awarding $5.5 million to 16 different projects which won a content for transforming community news through digital technology, reports the WSJ, pointing out that a lot of the winners focused on mobile phones and mobile technology. “One clear thread among several of the 16 projects that were selected: A focus on mobile phones and mobile technology…One grant recipient, for instance, proposed a project to make it easier for cheap mobile phones to receive news feeds. Another wants to develop a voice database to let users access news by phone. Meanwhile, another award is going to two college students who want to create better tools for mobile editing–letting journalists assign and edit stories on the fly.”

SendMe and IAC (NSDQ: IACI) to deliver content: SendMe Mobile has signed a deal with IAC to deliver ringtones, wallpapers and games to visitors of IAC mobile web pages. IAC includes Mobile by Citysearch and Evite Mobile.

Telenor to deploy Smart Messages: Norwegian operator Telenor will deploy Anam’s Smart Services Message Centre which will let the carrier offer messaging-based services…starting with protection against SMS spam.
