Mobile Content Bits: Aussie Android Delayed; Virgin Mobile Ok’d By NYSE; Ustream Inauguration; Qik
—Aussie Android delayed: Australian consumer electronics maker Kogan, which planned to release a Google Android phone on Jan. 29, has delayed its launch, saying the handset needed to be redesigned “to ensure its compatibility with all future Android applications,” reports TheAge.com. He declined to comment, citing a non-disclosure agreement he signed with Google (NSDQ: GOOG). The 25-year-old Ruslan Kogan, said: “The Agora reached a very late stage of development, manufacturing had commenced and we were within days of shipping the product to customers. But it now seems certain the current Agora specifications will limit its compatibility or interoperability in the near future.”
—Virgin Mobile USA (NYSE: VM) gets NYSE approval: Virgin Mobile USA said the New York Stock Exchange has accepted its business plan to comply with NYSE listing standards, after the company fell below the minimum required bid. Virgin said the plan was submitted on a confidential basis to the NYSE and included the operational and financial initiatives that it implemented last year, and how they’ll impact the company in 2009 and 2010.
—Ustream streams inauguration live on iPhone: Ustream has developed an application for the iPhone that allows you to watch Ustream videos, including the upcoming inauguration. In the companoy’s blog, it said: “Over the last two years, Ustream has had the privilege to work closely with President Elect Obama’s campaign. We stream speeches, we streamed townhalls, and we even had the honor to stream his victory speech.” But since the Ustream iPhone app is not yet available in the App Store, only a limited number of users, who are given “preview access,” will be able to follow along. —Qik and Ashton Kutcher at Sundance: Qik, a live mobile video streaming platform, said this week that it’s working with Katalyst Media, (), co-founded by Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg, to create an online reality TV show based while at Sundance. Called “24 Hours @ Sundance,” the film will be broadcast live using a Nokia (NYSE: NOK) N95 and Nokia N85. Contest members will have to complete a time-based race featuring challenging tasks.
