—NBA, SPIN, UMG Go iPhone: The NBA is launching an iPhone app for the 2009 playoffs, SPIN Magazine is launching SPIN Earth on the iPhone to highlight music and culture from around the world, and Universal Music Group is launching several iPhone apps for artists including Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em, George Straight, Pussycat Dolls and Lady Gaga. The connecting factor is that they’re all using Kyte to do it: The apps can have Twitter, RSS and downloads.
—Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Launches Star Droid: Google will launch a service to help people navigate the night sky. “Star Droid, uses GPS technology found in most new handsets to identify the position of the user and then compares this with existing maps of space. It automatically attaches name tags to the stars and planets that can be seen through the phone’s viewfinder… The application, which could be launched as early as this week, is also likely to identify the object’s distance from Earth and its position within a constellation” reports Times Online.
—WiMax In Atlanta: Clearwire (NSDQ: CLWR) hasn’t advertised it, but it has started to offer WiMax service in Atlanta, reports FierceBroadbandWireless.
—IPhone 3.0 Required For Apps: Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) has announced that all new apps for its store must be compatible with iPhone OS 3.0 to be approved—and once the OS is out any apps currently available that aren’t compatible may be pulled from the store reports Internet News.
