Mobile Content Bits: AP Subs; AT&T Laptops; Universal Flicks; More In 4G Program; Wattpad

AP Trials Subscription Apps: Associated Press is trialing a subscription service on the BlackBerry App World—the new apps will cost $2.99 for a one-year license, which isn’t excessive. It’s also launching Noticias de AP, targeted to Spanish-speakers in America. In Canada the Canadian Press Mobile app will be available in French and English for $3.69 Canadian (US$2.93). These apps are run by Handmark, which also created the app for mine, a new digital magazine developed by Time Inc. and American Express Publishing Corporation allowing readers to choose editor-selected content from top brands, including CNNMoney.com, Food&Wine.com, Golf.com, InStyle.com, People.com, RealSimple.com, SI.com, Time.com and Travel+Leisure.com, to create their own free, personal, customized magazine.

AT&T (NYSE: T) Offers Laptops: AT&T is offering a variety of ultra-portable mini laptops with built-in AT&T 3G wireless cards starting at $49.99, if you get AT&T “Internet at Home and On the Go” broadband services which start at $59.95 per month. They access AT&Ts 3G network and 20K hotspots. They seem to be available only in Atlanta and Philadelphia at the moment. (release)

Zed Signs Deal With Universal: Zed has signed a deal with Universal Pictures Digital Platforms Group to develop mobile content from some of its films, including voicetones, ringbacks and wallpapers from movies such as Role Models, Knocked Up, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Dazed and Confused, The Fast and the Furious, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles and Animal House. It’s also launched a couple of games for the Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) App Store—Bubble Boom and Carnival Hammer—which use the accelerometer in the iPhone.

Alcatel-Lucent Lures Other Into 4G Program: Alcatel-Lucent has convinced some others to join its ng Connect Program which is working on technologies and ecosystems and so on for 4G networks. The new members include Atlantic Records, Kyocera Communications, e-Learning company LearningMate, and mobile kiosk company MediaTile.

Wattpad On BlackBerry App World: Wattpad has launched a mobile app on the BlackBerry’s App World store for its ebook sharing community.
