—BNET Goes Mobile: CBS Interactive (NYSE: CBS) has launched some mobile offerings for its business-focused website, BNET. It signed Quattro Wireless to create a version of the website for iPhone and iPod touch users, and Handmark to create a Blackberry application. “We’ve had tremendous success with the rollout of mobile experiences for many of the recent CBS Interactive properties including CNET, CHOW, and GameSpot, and have been able to apply this winning formula to BNET,” said Jeff Sellinger, Executive Vice President and General Manager, CBS Mobile in the press release.
—Barcode Scanning Included In ShopSavvy: ShopSavvy, a shopping application for Android phones with 400K users, has included technology from Krillion so that users can scan a barcode with their handsets. This lets them identify a local retailer with the product in stock, check the price in real time and buy online for pick-up at the store. ShopSavvy plans to get money via referrals.
—T-Mobile USA Launches USB Laptop Stick: T-Mobile has launched a USB Laptop Stick to let its customers use its 3G network on their laptops, as well as access the 10,000 or so WiFi hotspots it has around the country. The webConnect USB Laptop Stick is $49.99 with a 2-year contract after rebate or $99.99 with 1-year contract, or without the contract is $249.99. Customers get 5GB of data for $59.99 and are charged $0.20 per MB over that. Data used over the HotSpot is not counted against the monthly data charge.
—Golf by Zagat on IPhone: Zagat has launched an iPhone application—Golf by Zagat—for $4.99. It lets people see ratings and reviews for 1,149 golf courses, including special features such as celebrity designs, 19th holes and fine food and click-to-call for bookings. Users can track their best scores for each course and save their favourites, and it includes weather information from AccuWeather.
—Glu (NSDQ: GLUU) Signs 5 Game Deal With Activision: Glu has signed a deal with Activision (NSDQ: ATVI) which will see it port 5 of the video game makers products to mobile, on the platforms of Android, Blackberry, BREW, J2ME and Windows Mobile.
—Verizon (NYSE: VZ) Settles Another Telemarketer Lawsuit: Verizon has settled another telemarketer lawsuit for $25,000, which it will donate to the National Domestic Violence Hotline (NDVH). The case was against Feature Films for Families, which auto-dialled 500,000 people to sell The Velveteen Rabbit.
