Mobile Content Bits: Opera Filter; VH1; Start Mobile Art; Sccope

imageOpera launches content filter: Opera has signed up BrightCloud to provide filtering software for its Opera Mini mobile browser. This will let operators implement parental control mechanisms, block access to adult content or other sites, block services that are deemed inappropriate, and add in an extra level of security, especially for enterprise networks. Apparently Opera has been getting requests for this, due to laws and regulations in their countries. BrightCloud offers access to “the largest and most accurate set of categorized Web sites in the industry”, according to the release.

VH1 Mobile redesigns, adds services VH1 Mobile has redesigned its mobile site (m.vh1.com) and launched some new services—Best Week Ever Trivia For Prizes, a game based on the TV show, the “Watch and Discuss Live Chat” application will get a special chat offering in conjunction with the new season of I Love Money 2, and some iPhone apps will be launched including VH1 Photos (celebrity photos) and VH1 Sneak Peeks. Last year video streams increased 93 percent compared to 2007, and page views by mroe than 580 percent: more than 2 million video streams were logged in December, 2008 alone.

Start Mobile does iPhone: Art on mobile company Start Mobile has launched a free mobile art gallery for the iPhone. The mobile art wallpapers are optimized for display on the iPhone, and all the images can be ‘flipped’ to reveal additional information about the artists and their artwork, including links to their respective websites and galleries.

Sccope adds maps for shopping: Price comparison service Sccope has added a mapping capability to its mobile site, so users can find the best prices for products and directions on the store that sells it. Sccope delivers the lowest prices from top retailers such as John Lewis, Comet and Tesco, with results from over 50 brands in the UK.
