The Mobile Marketing Association announced that its global CEO and President Mike Wehrs will resign effective December 31, after just missing his one-year anniversary in January.

In a release, it says that Wehrs will be returning to the commercial sector, but it didn’t not say in what role. Wehrs will fill in as Special Advisor to the MMA Global Executive Committee until June 30 to ensure a smooth transition. In the meantime, MMA Global Chairman Federico Pisani Massamormile will serve as interim CEO. Pisani: “We are disappointed to see him leave but support him in his goals to return to the commercial sector and appreciate him staying on as a special advisor for a period of time. Having benefited from Mike’s leadership, the MMA has transformed over the past year and is finishing 2009 in a great position.”

Wehrs is credited among other things, introducing new programs, increasing paid memberships, and negotiating a landmark deal with the U.S. carriers around Consumer Best Practice adoption.

Sometimes I wonder what the MMA does. Must be tough to have paid vacations across the globe (not to mention the numerous parties they have to attend) to conduct meetings because you know, teleconference is a dying trend. But what do I know.
Then there are those few ‘high profile’ members who can be seen in the spotlight during all the big events but somehow when its time to contribute to the guidelines, there is no mention of them.

  • huh?

what “landmark” deal? the one that puts all the carrier requirements in a single doc? that’s 10 minutes of copy-paste and far from any kind of cross-carrier agreement.
