Mumbai, India-based Mauj Mobile, a mobile content provider that’s part of the People Group, has acquired UK-based Mobango for its international catalog of 35,000 free mobile applications. The acquisition will not only help it expand beyond India, but also into applications from traditional mobile content, like ringtones and wallpapers.

Mauj Mobile is privately held and funded by Sequoia Capital in India, Intel (NSDQ: INTC) Capital and WestBridge Capital Partners. The People Group owns other Internet sites, such as Shaadi.com, a portal, and Makaan.com, a real estate site. Terms of the deal were not disclosed; however, in a release the People Group’s Chairman and Managing Partner Anupam Mittal, said the cost was in the range of “a few million dollars.”

Mauj has raised a total of $10 million since 2006 and today is profitable and contributes 30 percent of the revenues to the People Group. In March 2007, Mobango raised $5.7 million in a second round of venture capital.
