Like most hyped technologies m-commerce has gone through a few years of not-much-at-all since it was slated as the next-big-thing, but indications are that its time is fast approaching. SeattlePI has a piece explaining why m-commerce is the biggest thing to hit shopping since e-commerce (there was something between the two?). The most interesting part of the article is some stats given by m-commerce provider mPoria, which will announce a deal with search and advertising company Medio Systems today. “The percentage of site visitors who buy a product—usually between 0.5 percent and 1.5 percent—is the same for m-commerce as e-commerce sites, Wright said. The average purchase is $130, and people pay with a credit card or PayPal.” Goods sold include DVDs, CDs, cosmetics and apparel, and about 75 retailers have signed up including TicketsNow.com and GameStop.
