LiMo Foundation Adds Partners, Handsets

LiMo Foundation, the organization that supports open source software for mobile phones, has added two new members and nine new handsets, according to its blog.

The Foundation said that Japan’s second-largest operator KDDI is now a member, joining the No. 1 and No. 3 largest operators in Japan, including NTT DoCoMo and Softbank. LiMo also said that Immersion has joined the organization, which develops haptic technologies that provide a jolt to a person’s fingertip to confirm that a person did indeed touch the screen. In addition, LiMo said that NEC and Panasonic Mobile Communications has developed nine phones for NTT DoCoMo (NYSE: DCM).

In all, there are now 42 compliant LiMo-based handsets and a dozen carrier members.
