Kineto Wireless has raised $15.5 million in funding to continue working on its unlicensed mobile access (UMA) technology and a new technology for femtocells. The Milpitas, Calif.-based company brought on investments from Motorola (NYSE: MOT) along with existing investors Oak Investment Partners, Sutter Hill Ventures, Venrock, Seapoint Ventures and InterDigital. The company’s UMA technology allows devices to roam between networks using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and cellular to make use of the internet for cheaper voice and data services whenever possible. T-Mobile’s Hot Spot@Home product uses the technology and Kineto is now aiming to get a cut of the action in the emerging femtocell market. Release.
