IPhone To Go With T-Mobile In Germany: Rumor; Different Carriers In Different Countries?

Apple’s press conference in London next tuesday is widely pegged as the launchpad for the announcement of who Apple will partner with for the iPhone in Europe… Reuters is now quoting an “industry source” as saying that T-Mobile will be the partner in Germany. “The touch-screen device, which combines the popular iPod music player, a video player and a Web browser, will be sold through Deutsche Telekom’s retail outlets in Germany at an initial price of 399 euros ($554), the source said…Deutsche Telekom’s mobile communications unit T-Mobile has agreed to share voice and data revenues generated by the phones with Apple”.

Interestingly, Reuters ties all the rumors together, claiming that Apple will have different partners in different countries: “Apple is expected to hand a UK sale deal to Spanish Telefonica’s O2 UK unit, and a French deal to France Telecom’s Orange, analysts say”. It was originally expected that Apple would try to sign a pan-Europe deal with a single carrier—perhaps it tried that and couldn’t pull it off and will therefore go with different carriers in different countries… or maybe there’s just a lot of rumors without any solid basis.
