iPhone & Beyond: The Debate Morphs: Nokia Ovi; iPhone Price Cuts & iPod Touch; Googles Gphone

As we’re approaching close to our first seminar, titled “iPhone And Beyond: The Content Opportunities” (Sep 20 at Landmark Theater), things are changing rapidly: even since we posted about our seminar idea a month ago (post iPhone launch), issues have morphed:

Nokia is getting serious about integrating content, music and social applications within its handset, as a way to go around operators’ restrictions, and has also made moves to integrate online and mobile applications. More after the jump…

Then with Apple cutting the iPhone prices by $200 (and the resulting controversies), indications are that the world hasn’t completely changed with the phone’s launch. What led to these Apple mis-steps, and what does it say in general about our industry? And then, the introduction of iPod Touch, which is essentially an iPhone without the phone, do alternate networks (using Wi-Fi and WiMax) stand a chance? In this high speed scenario, how does the industry need to think about handsets and the applications on it?

Then, Apple’s reported trouble in sealing iPhone deals in Europe, indicates that “the foreign carriers may be choking on Apple’s rev-sharing demands; it’s less clear why Apple seems to be so cataclysmically afraid of releasing an unlocked iPhone,” as we mentioned in this post. What will completely unlocked phones do to networks, and what does it mean for content companies?

And then probably the biggest sleeper hit of the month: the rumors about Google’s imminent launch of Gphone, or at least an integrated suite of mobile applications of some sort.

And lastly, some more debate on the eternal question: Carriers Vs Content Providers—Battle Or Opportunity?

This and much more will be discussed at the seminar, and our confirmed speakers include Jason Devitt, CEO, Skydeck, former founder and CEO, Vindigo;  David Gosen, CEO, I-Play;  Omar Hamoui, CEO of Admob;  George Linardos, Director of Experience, Forum Nokia;  Chris Petrovic, VP, Digital Media, Playboy Enterprises;  Cyriac Roeding, EVP, CBS Mobile;  Craig Shapiro, Head of Content, Helio; and Alex Bloom, GM of Smartphone, Motricity.

Our generous sponsors: Telephia and AdMob.
