iPhone 3G S Could Rack Up 500,000 In Sales In Debut Weekend
Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster believes that Apply may sell half a million iPhone 3G S models when they go on sale this weekend, half the number of its predecessor, the iPhone 3G, reports Fortune.

But that lower estimate reflects the fewer number of countries the new version is rolling out in—eight instead of 21, Munster said. It also reflects the fact that the new phone’s features aren’t “major improvements” and that the iPhone 3G debuted at half the price. Still, it’s much more than the Palm (NSDQ: PALM) Pre drummed up, which according to analysts, racked up some 50,000 in sales in its first two days in stores.
Munster estimates that in the new phone’s launch quarter which has 11 days left, Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) could sell a total of 5 million iPhones, with 500,000 of the iPhone 3G s, and 2.5 million of the older models sold in the month of June alone. He further predicts that in its first full quarter—the three months ending September 2009—Apple could see 7 million iPhones in total.
