Industry Moves: Motorola Appoints David Dorman Non-executive Chairman

Motorola (NYSE: MOT) has named former AT&T (NYSE: T) CEO David Dorman as non-executive chairman, it announced today. Dorman replaces current chairman Ed Zander, who stepped down as CEO in January. Zander is retiring from the chairman role—as planned—when his term is up at the company’s annual shareholders meeting on 5 May. The 54 year-old Dorman, currently an MD and senior adviser at Warburg Pincus and Co, has served on Motorola’s board since 2006. He also sits on the boards of CVS, Yum! Brands, and the Georgia Tech Foundation. His appointment comes two days after the handset maker made a deal with activist investor Carl Icahn to settle their proxy battle (release).
