IDT’s Digital Group Forms Zedge Studios; Takes Majority Stake in Comics Publisher
IDT sold its IDT Entertainment division in 2006 to Liberty/Starz, after building up the library, and now seems like they’re trying again, this time on the mobile/digital side: it bought Zedge mobile content service last year, and made it part of its new group IDT Internet Mobile Group. Now, it is forming Zedge Studios, and the former CEO of IDT Entertainment Morris Berger (and now CEO of the digital group) will be the head of the studios.

As part of this, it has also bought a majority stake in IDW Publishing, an indie comics publisher in the horror, action, and sci-fi genres, with titles as The Transformers, 30 Days of Night, CSI, Star Trek, 24, and Scarface. Zedge Studios will develop IDW’s user base and develop, acquire and finance IP for distribution over multiple channels, including Zedge.net, the company said. More details in release.
