HTC Says Android Handset Will Ship This Year; Calls Report “Inaccurate”

This seems to be a rumor that picks up and starts running every once in awhile, and once again, it’s being shot down. Trip Chowdhry, an analyst with Global Equities Research, said Google’s (NSDQ: GOOG) Android operating system, will be delayed until next year, reports Barron’s. Apparently there’s several issues: handset maker HTC is “having structural problems to incorporate Google’s demanded feature set”; HTC is “demanding a guaranteed minimum revenue surety from Google.” Chowdhry says a demand of that kind means that HTC does not think there will be enough demand for the phone. An HTC spokesperson told us the report is not true: “This report is completely inaccurate and we are excited to be on track to ship our first Android-based phone later this year.”
