HTC CEO Peter Chou: The Difference Is In the Design
HTC, the Taiwanese smartphone maker, released its third Android device on Wednesday, along with a new user interface it calls Sense. The slickness of the device and its navigation has once again brought the former white label cellphone maker into the spotlight.
No other handset maker so far has managed to pump out three Android devices, not to mention the level of differentiation that HTC has with its “Hero” phone. The FT.com spoke at length with HTC’s Peter Chou on a wide range of topics, from smartphone operating systems to net censorship in China, to the economic recession in the East and West.
One interesting question, given that HTC is the world’s largest handset maker for Windows Mobile phones, and its aggressive moves with Android, which system will win out? Chou diplomatically calls the two systems “different” noting that the two can sit side by side in the market if devices target different segments and if each can differentiate through design. Said Chou, “We are putting a tremendous effort in great design and innovating the user experience on top of those to let people have a great experience on both.” Click here to access the full video interview on the FT’s site.
