HP To Release New Smartphone: Report

As if the market weren’t already crowded. The WSJ.com reports that Hewlett Packard will release a new smartphone in the next two months, with the goal of extending its device business to consumers. “People briefed on the matter” said the phone, which will run on Windows Mobile 6.1 and have both a touchscreen and keypad, will be able to access the web, and send and receive emails. The new device will be part of HPs iPaq line-up and will launch in Europe first, before being introduced worldwide. HP launch its last iPaq smartphone in June. The company has a tiny sliver of global smartphone sales according to market research firm IDC, who puts their total share at less than 3.3 percent.
