imageSprint (NYSE: S) is sponsoring an online TV series based on the popular TV show Heroes, which premiered last night on NBC.com, Hulu, and on Sprint phones. Prior to the premier, more than one million fans voted for a character that will star in the action series. Called Heroes: Destiny, the four-part series, featuring five to seven-minute length episodes, will run every Monday at 9 p.m. The cast includes Columbian-born actor, Roberto Urbina, Lina Esco (from “Cane”) and Andrea Thompson (from “24”) and will be directed by Eagle Egilsson (“CSI: Miami,” “The Wire”). MediaWeek reported that the microseries is a co-production of Sprint media shop Mindshare, a unit of WPP, and NBC Universal (NYSE: GE) Television’s creative partnerships and innovations unit. The idea was to make it as authentic as possible. The production and writing team from the Heroes prime time show had significant input in the spin-off project. With Sprint’s sponsorship, the microseries will feature some product placement shots of the Sprint Instinct Phone, however, it is supposed to be subtle. Release.
