Google Phone Rumors—Another Touchscreen?

HighContrast has a summary of the Google phone rumors to date, based mostly on the acquisitions the search giant has made recently. Particular importance is placed on the acquisition of Skia, which had a vector-based 2D imaging technology…“you really wouldn’t need Skia if you weren’t planning to own mobile presentation, i.e., create a phone top.” It also points to some dubious images put up on Engadget, which show an iPhone like touch screen handset. There’s some detail on the back-end from an anonymous source, and a claim that “Google is planning to build distribution relationships with multiple carriers by allowing them to minimize subscription and marketing costs. In other words, Google will market the phone online and carriers will fulfill”. Which is a pretty good way to go—if there’s one thing Google is good at, it’s getting eyeballs. All they’d need is an ad with “choose your own carrier” and they’ve got a cheap, effective way to market it.
