Google Phone Maybe Waiting For 3G

Google (NSDQ: GOOG) is reportedly considering launching its mobile phone with 3G capability, a move which would push the launch to the first half of next year rather than the end of this year…but the sheer number of rumors seems to indicate the phone is definitely on the way. This from DigiTimes Telecom (via Engadget): “Google will definitely launch its own-brand handset but has yet to finalize the handset’s specifications, OS, production contractor and operating partners, according to sources at Taiwan handset makers.” It’s a sure bet that any phone put out by Google will have a Google-developed OS, browser, etc—it’s a software company after all, the handset is really a showcase for its technologies.

Google may be a software company, but they are not an Operating System Software company. It remains to be seen what OS they choose, though Linux would have the odds.
