Google Gives Closer Look At Maps On Android Phones

Google (NSDQ: GOOG) gives a lot more detail on how Google Maps will work on the new Android-based G1 in a post on its Google Mobile blog. Tight integration of all the hardware and software features at its disposal is once again the key. The touchscreen lets users zoom in and out of maps, which can be easily switched to Street View. It also makes use of the phone’s built-in accelerometer with its Compass mode, that lets users look around Street View (currently, only available in the US) by moving their phone up and down, and side to side. For people who constantly get lost like me, there’s a My Location feature that allows you to turn on GPS which will find your location on a map. You can search for businesses and restaurants and map them with one click. Maps are also integrated with email, IM, and the web on Android. And, of course, Google reminds developers that they can use Android’s MapView and location APIs to build more location-aware mobile applications. The video of the demo is below:
