As soon as this year, Google (NSDQ: GOOG) will try to make the Android operating system more friendly to business users, according to Google engineering VP Andy Rubin. The move to support the enterprise will directly target what was previously Research In Motion’s and Microsoft’s bread and butter.

Rubin told Reuters that future versions of the Android operating system would support businesses. “Today we don’t support many enterprise applications but in the future I think enterprise will be a good focus for us.”

The new Google Android phone launched by T-Mobile USA is now supporting Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) Exchange, so employees can have their work-related email pushed out to the phone, but that’s really only the first step. Clearly, security is also a big deal to companies, which want features, such as remote wiping in case a handset is ever lost. Rubin said however that Google is limited to what the handset manufactures choose to do and when they do it.
