Google Android Phone To Debut As Early As October: Report

imageSo much for the Android delays. T-Mobile will be the first operator to offer a mobile phone running on Google’s Android, which may come out in the US as early as October, the NYT reports. Taiwanese handset manufacturer HTC is making the phone, which is supposed to give all other smartphones, including Apple’s iPhone, a serious run for the money. Not only will it have a touch screen, but a full keyboard that slides out from under the screen.

The phone is now in the process of being certified by the FCC. Google (NSDQ: GOOG), HTC and T-Mobile want to announce the phone in September to ensure they capture the lucrative holiday season. Sprint (NYSE: S) has been working with Google as well on an Android-based phone, but the company said no date had been set for a launch. Neither AT&T (NYSE: T) nor Verizon (NYSE: VZ) have committed to selling Android-based phones.

You can see a video demo of the phone which has been handily posted on YouTube and embedded below. The NYT source says this is the real thing.
