Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum has reached a $1 million settlement with California-based Mobile Messenger Americas over allegations it was signing people up for its monthly subscriptions without them knowing. The agreement was negotiated by the CyberFraud section of the Economic Crimes Division and the money will be used to fund more more CyberFraud investigations and other consumer protection services, reports Legal Newsline. The agreement also involves the company complying with the AG’s guidelines for the disclosure of pricing and subscription terms in the online marketing of mobile content. “An investigation found that thousands of Florida customers have received charges on their cell phones for downloads they did not want or authorize” reports Sth Florida Business Journal. A month ago McCollum reached a similar deal with Media Breakaway.
