FCC To Revise Backup Power Plan For Towers Following White House Rejection
The FCC is revising its plan to require more backup power for cellular towers following the White House’s rejection of an earlier proposal, Dow Jones reports. The FCC decided against overriding the White House’s decision, even though that was an option. Instead, it will change its proposal to focus on maintaining service for “public safety during, and in the aftermath of, natural disasters and other catastrophic events.” Wireless carriers and CTIA fought hard against the FCC’s earlier proposed rule in court, saying a blanket nationwide rule to require eight hours of backup power was in some cases impossible to meet.
