ESPN Launches Photo Comparison Game On The iPhone
Fans of Photo Hunt rejoice. ESPN (NYSE: DIS) Cameraman, a new application just launched on the App Store, will seem familiar to regular users of the photo-comparison game that sits like a small TV on so many bars. Bringing a strong sports element and higher-quality photography into the mix, the free application is another example of a large entertainment company trying something different and unique for the iPhone. A wide range of sports are represented in the free game, which asks players to touch the screen on sections where side-by-side photos have minor differences. For example, a small patch might appear on an athlete in one of the shots and be missing in the other.
ESPN might be on to something fun here and it’s a model that already brings in plenty of quarters from bar-hopping gamers. Yet, I still wonder if ESPN would see more interest in even a $10 or $20 iPhone application that gives sports fans a smooth gateway into video highlights and real-time updates from games.
