EA Mobile May Consider Game Subscriptions In Europe

EA Mobile is thinking about launching new business models, such as a mobile-game subscription in Europe, to attract more customers, according to PocketGamer.biz. The plan the company is considering would allow subscribers to download about five games a month that may cost as much as the games do on an individual basis, said Javier Ferreira of EA Mobile. “We think we’ve got to broaden the business models that we’re offering to consumers, to encourage more usage, and new users,” he added. To support the subscription service, EA Mobile would draw on its new releases, which include about two to three new titles every month in Europe, and its back catalog of titles. On whether EA was going to try to compete with Gameloft (EPA: GFT), which is rumored to have plans to develop 80 games this year, Ferreira said no, “we want to focus our R&D expenditure on some of the more innovative things that are going to drive the market forward, rather than making what might be the same game with different brands on top. That’s not doing much for the market.”
