Version 7 of Windows Mobile, the next major release of the platform, will get a full-featured version of Internet Explorer 6 in an attempt to compete with the Safari browser on the iPhone, according to Engadget. The site has some new details on the Windows Mobile roadmap, saying that the next version will get an overhaul of its application suite, including the aforementioned browser, while the site previously reported that it will also feature enhanced touch features. No word on when version 7 will be out, nor the following version, which Engadget calls a “game-changer.” It says version 8 will be completely re-engineered to enhance ease of use, with data correlation a key feature. For instance, the software will be able to recognize who is on the other end of a call and then pull up emails from them or a map of their location. Version 8, though, is still several years off, and these sorts of roadmaps are always subject to change.
