DJ Envy Launches Mobile Mixtape

DJ Envy, who’s radio show is broadcast on Hot 97 and Sirius Satellite Radio’s Hip-Hop Nation, will launch a series of mix tapes for mobile phones. The Mobile Mixtape will be weekly seven-track compilations mixed by DJ Envy and distributed through Cellfish…subscribers are mentioned in the release but no mention of a subscription price. Subscribers will bet seven new ringtones a month, daily insider tips about hip-hop stars and video blogs with exclusive celebrity interviews—they’ll pay a per-download fee for full-tracks. The bonus for Cellfish is that DJ Envy gets some exclusive tracks for his show (I think), and they will be part of the service. Packages such as this are a pretty good way to sell music on mobiles, and the opportunity for customers to go further and buy more content is a plus. The service will be promoted on-air and the web, in urban music publications, street marketing and a viral campaign. Cellfish is also hosting a community for the DJ.
