In the opening keynote at the CTIA Wireless IT and Entertainment show, the trade group’s president, Steve Largent, touted some stats from its recently released semi-annual research on the US mobile market. The CTIA says there were over 243.4 million mobile subscribers in the US, representing some 81% of the population. These users sent 28.8 billion SMS in June, and are now sending more than 1 billion text messages per day.

Also, wireless data service revenues for first half 2007 rose to $10.5 billion. This represents a 63 percent increase over the first half of 2006. Wireless data revenues now amount to 15.5 percent of all wireless service revenues, and represent money that consumers spend on non-voice services.
