@ CTIA: Glu Mobile Game; AT&T Adds Communities; Opera Joins Symbian
—Opera Joins Symbian Group: Browser developer Opera is now part of Symbian Foundation, a Nokia-led consortium that was set up in June to turn the Symbian mobile operating system into an open-source platform…Opera announced that it is teaming up with Nvidia to build an optimized version of the Opera 9.5 browser into the graphics processor manufacturer’s Tegra line of computer-on-a-chip processors. Any guesses on how long before Opera gets bought by Nokia?
—*AT&T* adds communities: AT&T (NYSE: T) said it is launching “My Communities,” a new downloadable gateway that lets users manage multiple social networking accounts in one place. My Communities was developed by Intercasting Corporation, a mobile social networking company. The application is being launched because recent data shows that people maintain multiple social network accounts, and that are a growing number are using their phones to maintain them. Currently, the app supports several sites including: MySpace, Rabble, LiveJournal, Xanga, Photobucket, and others. Subscribers will automatically get access to others as they are added, and they can register for the sites directly on their phone, which is not commonly offered. The app is available on 23 devices from the MEdiaMall and costs $2.99 a month.
—Glu Mobile to publish “Monsters vs. Aliens”: Mobile Game Company Glu Mobile (NSDQ: GLUU) announced today that it is working with DreamWorks Animation to develop and publish the mobile game for the March 2009 film release of Monsters vs. Aliens. The film is the modern day version of the classic ‘50s monster movie, featuring stars like Reese Witherspoon, Hugh Laurie, Seth Rogen, Will Arnett, Kiefer Sutherland and Stephen Colbert. The game marks the second time Glu is working with DreamWorks. It also developed and published Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, which will launch worldwide with the film’s U.S. premiere on Nov. 7.
