More details of Cox Communications wireless plans were released today after some information leaked out last night. The company said today the network will enable them to provide a quadruple play—delivering voice, video, data and now wireless. It also provided insight into how the mobile services will develop, saying that the bundle will allow them to provide customers with special services, such as providing access to TV favorites on their phone, program TV DVRs, and access content saved on the home computer. Cox believes they will be able to leverage their existing customer base, of which 64 percent already buy multiple services, and one-third subscribe to all three products. To get going quickly, Cox will use Sprint’s network to roll out services next year, while at the same time Cox will build its own 3G wireless networks will launch in 2009. Cox said it will also test out 4G technology, using LTE. Although it doesn’t sound like Cox has made a decision on that yet, but it varies from its partner Sprint (NYSE: S), which is rolling out WiMax through a yet-to-be approved merger with Clearwire (NSDQ: CLWR).

Cox is clearly trying to differentiate this partnership from its joint venture it formed with Sprint earlier, called Pivot. That joint venture disbanded after it became too difficult to implement. In a release, Cox’s President Pat Esser said: “To deliver the best customer experience, we will manage every aspect of the service, from product development to marketing and sales to back-office operations and customer support and billing.”
