Connecting Virtual To Real Via Mobile

The BBC has a piece on Web 2.0 and how it works with mobile phones—mobile blogging and so on. It quotes Newbay’s chief executive Paddy Holahan as saying that “mobile tends to be much more about your lifestyle; internet blogging tends to be much more about your opinions, politics, things like that”.
It goes on to talk about IBM’s space in virtual game Second Life, and what it hopes to achieve… “IBM’s master inventor Zygmunt Lozinski explained his vision does not simply involve accessing Second Life from your phone - it involves using your mobile as a bridge between the virtual world and the real world.” The idea being that if someone tries to contact you when you’re not online you can have it sent to your mobile phone, record a video and play that back to the person in the game. Which is weird… if you’re going to look at what can happen, why not just do the video call real time? Or if the image is a problem, just do voice…
