Update: Comcast Exploring Adding TV And Voice Services Over WiMax

Comcast (NSDQ: CMCSA) said it may start allowing subscribers to watch their favorite TV shows on mobile devices, but that it’s too early at this time to provide any specifics about the service.

To do so, Comcast would leverage its on demand video services for the web and its partnership with Clearwire (NSDQ: CLWR), which is rolling out a nationwide wireless broadband network, reports Reuters. “I can envision sometime in the future (On Demand Online) having a wireless component,” Comcast CFO Michael Angelakis said at the Goldman Sachs Communicopia conference. UPDATE: A Comcast spokeswoman clarified that while other devices and platforms have always been part of the company’s plan for On Demand, Angelakis’ comments were not intended to tie that vision to Clearwire.

The cable operator is also exploring adding a voice package to the service that would allow people to make phone calls over the wireless network to compete more effectively against Verizon Communications (NYSE: VZ).

In June, Comcast started offering very aggressively priced wired and wireless internet bundles. The service, being called High-Speed 2go by Comcast, is available in Portland, Ore., but is being rolled out to additional cities, including Chicago, Philadelphia and others by the end of the year. Wireless plans start as low as $30 a month, but the more impressive bundle is the one on the high-end. It includes access to Comcast’s wired home internet service, Clearwire’s 4G WiMax network and Sprint’s 3G cellular network. Altogether the package costs $70 a month (After a year, the price jumps to $92.95 a month).
